Project Overview:

In July 2025, Dongfeng Mengshi Technology officially launched the all-new luxury smart off-road SUV—the Mengshi M817.

As a key strategic model for Mengshi Technology in the field of intelligent, high-end off-road vehicles, the Mengshi M817 integrates smart driving, a smart cockpit, and advanced sensing technologies, committed to providing users with a safer, smarter, and more reliable all-scenario driving experience.

In terms of intelligent safety features, the Mengshi M817 is equipped with the VEHIR Intelligent Far-Infrared Night Vision System. Utilizing infrared thermal imaging technology, it enables all-weather environmental perception, providing drivers with clearer road information and risk warnings in complex scenarios such as pitch-black nights, heavy fog, and sandstorms.

Additionally, this project marks the industry’s first integration of infrared night vision technology with Huawei’s HarmonyOS cockpit system, serving as a significant practical example of the collaborative application of infrared thermal imaging technology and smart cockpits.

Project Background and Challenges:

As a smart SUV designed for the high-end off-road and all-scenario mobility markets, the Mengshi M817 must meet users’ driving needs across a variety of complex environments.

Typical application scenarios include:

· Nighttime driving on unlit roads

· Traveling on mountain and forest roads

· Driving in heavy fog

· Driving in dusty environments

· Long-distance highway driving

· Off-road traversal scenarios

In these scenarios, traditional visible-light cameras are easily affected by ambient lighting and weather conditions, leading to reduced target recognition capabilities.

For intelligent driving and active safety systems, enhancing the vehicle’s environmental perception capabilities in low-visibility conditions has become a key challenge during the project’s development.

Therefore, the Mengshi M817 requires the integration of more advanced perception technologies to provide drivers with all-weather, all-scenario driver assistance capabilities.

Solution:

To meet the intelligent system requirements of the Mengshi M817, VEHIR has provided a smart far-infrared night vision system solution.

The system utilizes infrared thermal imaging technology to detect thermal radiation emitted by target objects, generating real-time thermal images that are displayed directly on the vehicle’s cockpit display system.

Compared to traditional visible-light solutions, infrared thermal imaging technology does not rely on external light sources and can operate continuously in complete darkness and under adverse weather conditions.

Combined with intelligent recognition algorithms, the system enables automatic identification of road targets and risk warnings.

Core System Features:

24/7 Environmental Awareness

The system maintains stable operation in the following conditions:

· Pitch-black environments at night

· Heavy fog

· Dust storms

· Low-light conditions

· Complex off-road terrain

Helping drivers obtain timely information about the road ahead.

Extreme-Range Detection

The intelligent far-infrared night vision system features extreme-range detection capabilities, with detection ranges as follows:

Pedestrians/Cyclists: ≥300 m

Vehicles: ≥400 m

Large Animals: ≥400 m

Intelligent Target Recognition

The system can automatically recognize potential risk targets and perform real-time segmentation, rendering, and highlighting. Recognition ranges are as follows:

Pedestrians/Cyclists: 5–90 m

Vehicles: 5–120 m

Large Animals: 5–100 m

Target Accuracy

Pedestrians/Cyclists: ≥94%

Vehicles: ≥95%

Large Animals: ≥80%

Target Recall Rate

Pedestrians/Cyclists: ≥90%

Vehicles: ≥92%

Large Animals: ≥70%

Risk Warning Function:

When the system detects a hazardous object ahead, it automatically alerts the driver.

This helps the driver take braking, deceleration, or evasive action in advance.

· The warning is triggered based on the TTC (Time to Collision), with no tiered alert levels; the speed threshold ranges from 25 km/h to 80 km/h.

· Warning method: Visual + Audible

1. When a pedestrian or cyclist appears within a 3-meter-wide area in front of the vehicle, the vehicle’s speed exceeds 25 km/h, and the TTC (Time to Collision) is ≤2.7 seconds, each time the warning is triggered, the yellow segmented rendering will change to red segmented rendering and remain displayed for 5 frames (an additional 5 frames are displayed upon subsequent triggers). A red triangular warning icon will pop up on the infrared screen and remain for 4 seconds, accompanied by an audible warning signal.

2. When a vehicle appears within a 3-meter-wide area in front of the vehicle, the vehicle’s speed exceeds 25 km/h, and the TTC (Time to Collision) is ≤2.7 seconds, each time the warning is triggered, the blue segmented rendering will change to red segmented rendering and remain displayed for 5 frames (an additional 5 frames are displayed upon subsequent triggers). HarmonyOS Cockpit Integration Solution:

The Mengshi M817 project successfully integrates infrared thermal imaging technology with Huawei’s HarmonyOS cockpit.

Infrared thermal imaging footage can be displayed directly on the vehicle’s smart cockpit screen, enabling:

· Real-time thermal imaging display

· Target identification and annotation

· Risk warning alerts

A truly “what you see is what you get” smart driving experience.

This project also serves as a key practical example of the integration of infrared technology with the HarmonyOS cockpit.
